A Path to Personal Growth: Manners and Choices Matter
Look above the entrance to our classroom and you will see where we are going on personal growth. Even more important than knowing a country's capital city or the uses of a semi-colon is the knowledge that your greatest power is the power to choose. A person's choices, large and small, keep him or her going in the right direction when it comes to ethics and choices.
Now and throughout life, your kind words and kind actions improve your daily life and the lives of those around you. In keeping with this, manners in Room 5 will be as follows:
1. No hats are to be worn in the classroom. They disturb learning. I will warn you; then I will take your hat at least for the day.
2. No personal cell phone use in the classroom. It disturbs learning and it's rude. I will take your cell phone away for at least the day.
3. During whole class instruction, there is no getting up and walking around the classroom to get water, sharpen a pencil, etc. It is disrespectful. Wait until our class is doing desk work.
4. During class, there is no chewing gum, eating, or drinking anything other than water.
5. Do not touch someone else's property without permission.
6. Being late is rude because it affects the rights of others. Come up from recess and P.E. in a timely manner. Put your name on your papers; otherwise you may get no credit or be docked points. Avoid turning in late work; it is a bad habit that does not reflect well on you. These days, it is easy for you to share your work on our Google accounts.
7. Any unnecessary shouting out or talking when someone else is talking is also rude, as are inappropriate comments. Remember, there are about 27 of us in the classroom; it is not all about you.
I will be rewarding good learning habits with raffle tickets, which will be pulled the last Friday of each month. August is a short month -- just saying!
