About the Teacher: Mrs. Healey was raised in Ohio, was graduated from Northwestern University, became a writer, then switched to education when Kathryn, her daughter, began first grade at PCY. Her teaching credentials allow her to teach elementary school and also English for Grades 8-12. She has a Masters in Administration from National University. In 2000, she was Teacher of the Year for both La Canada and Los Angeles County.
A UCLA Writing Project Fellow and a member of a writing group for 20 years, she is a regular columnist for the La Canada Neighborhood magazine. She is a comical failure at aerial yoga and is barely adequate at tennis, but she has recently taken up hiking and climbing in a big way. This summer she regularly summitted Mt. Baldy. She also climbed at Glacier National Park and at Mammoth. Her major climb was Mt. Kilimanjaro. One of the seven major peaks in the world, it is located in Tanzania and is 19,600 feet high.
